It is not true that a theory can be defended come what may. Unless you are prepared to give up your humanity.
If you are a pedestrian you are a flat earther, in a manner of speaking.
If you are a bus driver you are a flat earther, in a manner of speaking.
If you are an airline pilot you cannot be a flat earther; you have to be a globularist.
If you are a sea captain you cannot be a flat earther; you have to be a globularist.
It is not wise to defend a theory come what may.
Universal flat-earth-ism is indefensible.

An atom is mostly empty space. The mass of an atom is concentrated at the nucleus where the protons and neutrons reside. A proton has the same mass as a neutron but is positively charged. A neutron has no charge. The electrons circulating around the nucleus are extremely light when compared to either a proton or a neutron.
Physical objects like tables and chairs are made up of atoms and molecules. But a chair, say, is not just a pile of atoms and molecules. Let's say the chair is made of a certain kind of plastic. That kind of plastic has characteristics such that it is suitable for making chairs. Why does it have these characteristics? It does because of the way its molecules are physically bonded together.
Diamond is just a form of carbon. It is different from charcoal only in the way the carbon atoms are lined up.
When we sit on a chair, we don't see what goes on at an atomic level nor at a molecular level. There are levels of reality. This is why when we sit on a chair, we don't fall straight down onto the floor even though atoms and molecules are mostly empty space.
There are layers of reality. If we collapse them into one and only one, we are asking for trouble.

It is not true that a theory can be defended come what may. Unless you are prepared to give up your humanity.
You can argue for the thesis that a theory can be defended come what may. But how far are you prepared to go? To ensure that you will win the argument, are you going to threaten those who disagree with you, with the possibility of a nuclear war?
There is danger in argument. To preserve our sanity, we have to know when to stop.
Trump doesn't. Neither does MAGA. Nor Putin. They are masters of doubling down. As a group they have gone no one has gone before. We now see the danger.
It is not true that any theory can be defended come what may. Words do not have magical powers. Things cannot be made to appear and disappear through incantations.
Unless, of course, if you believe in magic.
The belief in magic was popular at one time among the uneducated. It is counterintuitive that ciphers can be broken. At one time, those who were able to do so were thought to be in league with the Devil. Not by the educated! But by the uneducated.
Trump says he likes the uneducated. Of course, he himself is a genius. A stable genius.
It is not true that a theory can be defended come what may. Trump says he likes the uneducated. However, as we all know, not all his followers are uneducated. This has puzzled many. Should they not know better?
They do know better. The thesis that any theory can be defended come what may should not be a stranger to them. In fact, many of them regard themselves as good debaters. They will defend Trump come what may.
Why? What for? How can you defend the indefensible?
Any theory can be defended come what may. Including the indefensible. So they will defend the indefensible.
Moreover, they know they will win.
Puzzled? If any theory can be defended come what may, nobody wins!
True. So what do you think they will do? Yes, you guessed right. They will resort to violence.
